✦ AVOID MOISTURE
No hot tubs, baths, swimming pools, lakes, rivers, or oceans. Avoid submerging the tattoo for long periods of time in any type of water during the first month. However, do take showers and wash your tattoo.
✦ Do NOT expose your tattoo to the sun
A very minimal amount of sun exposure will do no harm, but try to avoid exposing the tattoo to sun for long periods of time during the healing process.
✦ Do NOT pick or scratch your tattoo
If your tattoo has formed any scabbing or has become itchy, leave it alone. Picking away at your healing tattoo can delay healing, cause fading, and increase the chances of infection. To relieve the itching you may pat the tattoo instead of scratching.
✦ Do NOT cover your tattoo
Let your tattoo breathe unless you're going to be somewhere where you are exposing the tattoo to a dirty environment, and/or excessive sun.
✦ Refrain from excessive sweating
Especially in cases where the new tattoo is in a direct sweat zone of the body. iT IS BEST TO AVOID PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES FOR ATLEAST THE FIRST WEEK OR LONGER DEPENDING ON YOUR HEALING PROCESS.
✦ dO NOT OVER-MOISTURIZE YOUR TATTOO
Avoid applying too much ointment/lotion. if you do not allow your tattoo to properly breathe, it will create the perfect environment for bacteria to prosper. rashes, small cyst, and other skin conditions can arise from over-applying ointment/lotion.
✦ Do NOT wear tight clothing.
Keep your new tattoo covered with loose, clean, breathable clothing.
✦ Apply plenty of sunscreen
For a long lasting and vibrant tattoo, daily application of sunscreen is always recommended.
If you are in a situation where you will be exposed to the sun for long periods of time, remember to apply a sunblock of at least 50 SPF every two 2 hours as listed by FDA regulations. Sun burns will permanently damage and fade your healed tattoo.
✦ Daily moisturizing and stay hydrated
Keeping your skin hydrated keeps the skin healthy which inevitably keeps the tattoo looking good.
